Accountability…
Having being born and raised in a Christian home, one concept I have struggled to understand is accountability. ” As long as am not doing the wrong thing why must I be answerable to someone?” And if you are also wondering come with me as I show you what I discovered.
You must be accountable not only to the master but also to one another in every level of growth. In case you are wondering whether accountability is Biblical, when the Lord talks about faithfulness in Bible what he meant was that we must be accountable with what he has provided for us. An example is in Luke 19:11-26 the story of the servants and the talents. The Lord expects us to be faithful stewards of what he gives us including time or should I say especially time. Just as the master came back and expected to see what the servants had done with what he had left so does God.
Being accountable to God is not such a big deal anyway because as Christians we want the Lord to find us faithful, plus the Holy spirit helps us achieve this. But why must I be accountable to Others? Does that mean letting people into my business?
Yes. That means allowing people into what you do. But then it is not everyone you are accountable to hence privacy is also maintained. In life the Lord has allowed us to have friends and people that are close to us and have gone ahead of us. These are the people that should keep us accountable. But then remember proverbs 12:26. The righteous choose their friends carefully but the ways of the wicked leads them astray. The people keeping you accountable also matter.
Here is why accountability is important.
I have noticed that since I started being accountable I achieve my goals quite quickly. It is very easy to plan and not do, but with someone pushing and reminding you it becomes even easier.
Something else is that we also need to be called out. Oh yes it is uncomfortable but this helps us grow.
