One thing that has stood out for me lately is how our perspective on things often affects the decisions we make every day.
I have been very conscious of the past few weeks, trying to understand why certain patterns have occurred over and over again.
Well, for the time I have been thinking about this, I have discovered that patterns repeat themselves because most of the time our ability to make decisions is affected by the perspectives we have about things. We hold beliefs too strongly that sometimes, if crossed, we tend to feel offended.
Have you had someone talking and told yourself, “I see why your life is the way it is .” This is because how we think or our view on matters most likely affects our decision-making and hence the patterns we continue to see every day as we continue to live.
My friends and I the other day were having a discussion on how scarcity and lack impact our lifestyle and financial discipline. Most people who have grown up in poverty often think spending is equal to wasting, hence it becomes very hard for them to take risks in investing. They are conscious because to them spending means lack, which goes as deep as affecting their giving habits.
I remember a time I had a job and would still not spend money on clothes and nice shoes because to me, that meant wastage when there were other important needs that needed to be met. I would feel selfish spending on essentials. You don’t see the impact scarcity and lack have on your mindset until you get to interact with others who don’t view life as you do. This may at first seem foreign and hard to adapt to, but I found out that what I needed was a shift in my mindset. When our minds shift, even our decisions start to experience a shift and hence a change in the patterns we often see in our lives.
I have realised that as we continue to grow, there are beliefs we need to put aside as we pick others to see a difference in the decisions we make every day.
